Fallen Luanna: The Scarred Forest by hawthornearts Fallen Luanna: The Scarred Forest by hawthornearts
Another piece for the brilliant :iconeriksoln: 's Fallen Luanna world

Scarred Forest Story (formerly the Oakleaf Forest): The elves occupied Oakleaf for thousands of years. Entire generations of elves lived there, some never feeling the need to leave it's sylvan boundaries. During the Age of Darkness, when they tyrant Dante took over the land, the forest was attacked. Dante managed to guide his troops directly through the middle of the forest. They burned a path straight through, almost cutting the forest directly in half. Now, the war is over and Dante is no more. The forest is now referred to as The Scarred forest (North and South portions).

This reminds me of Birds of Paradise, from Magic the Gathering...in a good way, though. Love that card in all its iterations.

Just googled it and I see what you mean :D there are some similiarities aren't there?

Yeah, the birds are quite unique, and the similarity really attracted my eye.

I love this piece! Did you actually paint all the trees below though? It looks more like photomanip to me. That'd be a crazy amount of detail to paint by hand.

Thanks! Mixture between painting and phototextures. Yeah doing that by hand would be mega time consuming

I knew an artist up in Seattle who did stuff like that by hand. He was awesome!

The feathers on those birds are amazing! And I like that you chose to show us an aerial view to show off the scar rather than going in through the trees

Working with hawthronearts on this commission piece was truly an honor.

I like how this piece fits into the rest of my Fallen Luanna works because it is a strong contrast to the rest of the realm's pictures. It is colorful, alive and brings a sense of peace. Most of Fallen Luanna's works are dark and gloomy.

The birds up front are my favorite part. They are bright and colorful, but don't distract from the rest of the piece.

Thanks! It was a nice change to paint animals instead of humans.
